Heddon 1964 Catalog-Trade Version
1964 Heddon Fishing Lure Catalog-Trade Version
The 1964 Heddon fishing lure Trade Catalog provides collectors with a detailed look at the lures and fishing tackle offered by the James Heddon's Sons, out of Dowagiac, Michigan. Heddon was one of the most influential fishing lure manufacturers of the twentieth century. By 1964, Heddon had undergone ownership change but was still a giant in the fishing lure industry and continued to produce lures, rods and reels popular with anglers and collectors today. Marketed as "World's Largest Producer of Artificial Baits and Custom Built Rods". Vintage fishing lure catalogs like this are important reference materials for identifying lure models, studying finishes and packaging, and researching the history of classic fishing tackle.
This catalog is part of the My Bait Shop Master Catalog Archive Project (MCAP), a growing digital archive of vintage fishing tackle catalogs and historical reference materials for collectors and researchers.

Historical Notes from the 1964 Heddon Trade Catalog
There are a lot of really cool items in this 1964 Heddon trade catalog. Some appear in others as well but I am going to point them out here. First up on page 2 in the Prices section... notice where it says "Prices slightly higher west of the Rockies and in Canada." This is something you certainly don't see anymore and a sign of the times then.
On Page 3 it lists the New Products for 1964. I will let you read the Rods and Reels and focus on the Lures. They are the Twin Pal, Toni, Squirrel Tail Hep, Cobra, Sonic with Vibra Flash Colors and Packaging (which I will cover shortly).
Pages 15-16 shows the Heddon Packaging systems of the day and there are some really nice and now tough to find options. The first option mentioned on page 15 is almost impossible to find intact anymore and even a single bait in that style is a difficult find.
Heddon does a really nice job throughout the mid-1960's of pairing their lures with the rods in those sections. Showing exactly what a fisherman should be combining.
Page 47 covers the aforementioned New Cobra and Vibra Flash Sonic colors.
Page 61 has a note to dealers on special colors. They can send for a list of special available colors. If anyone has one or more of these lists, let me know. I would love to obtain some of these and share them here. Please reach out!
