Heddon 1962 Catalog
1962 Heddon Fishing Lure Catalog

The 1962 Heddon fishing lure Trade Catalog provides collectors with a detailed look at the lures and fishing tackle offered by the James Heddon's Sons, out of Dowagiac, Michigan. Heddon was one of the most influential fishing lure manufacturers of the twentieth century. By 1962, Heddon had undergone ownership change but was still a giant in the fishing lure industry and continued to produce lures, rods and reels popular with anglers and collectors today. Marketed as "World's Largest Producer of Artificial Baits and Custom Built Rods". Vintage fishing lure catalogs like this are important reference materials for identifying lure models, studying finishes and packaging, and researching the history of classic fishing tackle.
This catalog is part of the My Bait Shop Master Catalog Archive Project (MCAP), a growing digital archive of vintage fishing tackle catalogs and historical reference materials for collectors and researchers.

Historical Notes from the 1962 Heddon Catalog
This is a great catalog. So much information packed into 64 pages pages. It is just filled with great reels, rods and of course lures. Too many to point out here as you will find while browsing below. Some of the highlights include: New Heritage Reels, New Scandia Reels, New COLOR matched Rod and Reel sets and a great color chart on page 40.
In the lures section you will notice both the Heddon Hi-Tail and Dowagiac Spook. This is the last appearance year for both of them in the American catalogs. The Hi-Tail would make one more appearance in the 1967 Canadian catalog.1 The Dowagiac Spook would reappear in the Canadian 1967 and 1970 catalog along with the 1971 Swedish catalog.1 I have also found it in the 1968 and 1969 Canadian catalogs which include this lure. So now we know it was available for the entire run from 1967-1970 in Canada.
