Airex Popit Frog Color. This is a neat vintage bait with a metal cone tail. Made by the Airex Corporation, a division of Lionel Corporation. The Popit was introduced in 1951 and was one of their best known lures until the company was sold in 1962. More famous for their early reels, this lure is a beauty. About 2" long lure body with a back treble and flies for wings. This is the second version with the metal band. Lure is used but in good condition, see photos.
The Popit received patent No. 2,736,981 on March 6, 1956 designed by Joseph L. Bonanno of Madison, New Jersey and was then signed over to Airex. You can see a copy of the patent in the photos. This lot does not come with this patent but feel free to print off copies for yourself. Would make a great display piece.
