The 1972 Rebel Boat Fishing Machine catalog provides collectors with a detailed look at the BOATS offered by the Rebel Boat Company, Inc. - Rebel (PRADCO-Plastic Research & Development Corporation) during one of their first years in business.  By 1972, Rebel was gaining steam in the industry and really starting to take off.  Lures they made are popular with fishermen and collectors yet today.  A lot of people do not know they tried to enter the boat market as well.  This is an early example of that.  Vintage catalogs like this are important reference materials for identifying models, studying finishes and packaging, and researching the history of classic fishing tackle and the industry in general.

This catalog is part of the My Bait Shop Master Catalog Archive Project (MCAP), a growing digital archive of vintage fishing tackle catalogs and historical reference materials for collectors and researchers.

Collector Tip

We get asked all the time where we find old lures?  Garage sales, auctions, everywhere.  There are literally hundreds of millions of them out there.  Most are only worth a couple of dollars each, if that, but some are worth more.  It's the fun of looking, and hey most of these are fantastic to fish!

Historical Notes from the 1972 Rebel Boat Catalog

This is a short "catalog" or mailer that was sent out back in the day.  It's actually a good way to stump a friend or win a bet.  Most people have no idea that Rebel used to sell boats.  This is one of my favorite Rebel catalogs.  The REBEL Fishing Machine Bass Boats.

Take a look at the RETAIL prices for their two packages.

  • $3,995 for the inboard/outboard 90 H.P. Mercruiser Rebel Fastback with trailer package.
  • $1,995 for the Rebel outboard and trailer package.

I sure would like to get a Bass Boat at those prices these days.  In fact I would order a couple of them.

Notice the name at the bottom, George S. Perrin, Chairman.  It doesn't get much bigger than that in the Rebel world.  These were the beginning days of Bass Boats and the B.A.S.S. circuit.  This is important history and why we strive to protect and share it at My Bait Shop.
