Some people think it's crazy to share information. Then they wonder why the club is shrinking. Information is the key to new members and youth. How many kids today are walking around reading books? Those are phones in their faces. Put the information online. Make it available. My Bait Shop will always be about sharing information as much as we can. Half of our time and website is devoted to it.

Historical Notes from the 1989 Lazy Ike Catalog
Ah...1989. A great year for hair bands. Not so great for the fishing lure industry though. It spelled the end of Dura-Pak as they turned over their assets to the Great American Fishing Supply Company. Great American hit the ground running with a monster catalog filled with all of the classic lures and some new ones. Lots of Frankenstein lures adding spare components to a classic lure and making a new lure. Want to see a few examples:
-Page 7, the Lazy Ike Spin Tail. Basically the classic Lazy Ike with a spinner blade on the back.
-Page 9 has a few of these. The Chug Ike gets a skirt and is now the Popper Ike or a propeller on the back and it's a Sputter Ike. Take the Sail Shark... Add a spinner blade on the back and it's now a Shimmy Tail Shark or add a tail and get a Jointed Sail Shark or a tail and a spinner attachment and it's a Bassin' Assassin.
-Page 11 has one of the most misidentified lures out there. The Musky Champ. It's essentially a Musky Ike with a bucktail on it. However, it is not a Lazy Ike bait. It is a Marathon bait. Seriously. Same company though, same time period. Just a marketing spin. Times were tough in 1989, (although I had a blast).
I also would be remiss if I didn't mention the return of the Creek Chub wooden lures in this catalog including the Wiggle Fish. These are all wildly collectible now and tough to find. Overall this is a great catalog and if you really spend some time going through the entire thing I bet you will find some baits you never knew were made by this company. Lots and lots of misidentified baits here. They also put out a lot of cross packaged lures as well.
Bonus content is interesting on this one. I have multiple copies of this catalog and each had slighly different bonus materials so I put them all together where different to give you what we have. Some good stuff. A dealer price list for 1989, an order page, an insert on the Creek Chub wooden series, and a torn out catalog page featuring the Wiggle Fish. Great information for collectors.
Below is the complete scanned 1989 Lazy Ike fishing lure catalog. Each page is shown in order so collectors and researchers can study the lure models, finishes, and tackle descriptions used by the Lazy Ike during this period.
