Lazy Ike 1987 Catalog
1987 Lazy Ike Fishing Lure Catalog

The 1987 Lazy Ike fishing lure catalog provides collectors with a detailed look at the lures and fishing tackle offered by the Lazy Ike, a Division of Dura-Pak Corporation. By 1987, Dura-Pak was on the verge of bankruptcy and breathing its lasts breaths. It was living off of borrowed money and time. This may have been its last shot at staying in business in a tough economy. This catalog shows both Lazy Ike and Creek Chub lures made in Sioux City, Iowa. It also includes Marathon Tackle, Grizzly, and Barracuda Jigs.
Lures they made are popular with fishermen and collectors yet today. Vintage fishing lure catalogs like this are important reference materials for identifying lure models, studying finishes and packaging, and researching the history of classic fishing tackle.
This catalog is part of the My Bait Shop Master Catalog Archive Project (MCAP), a growing digital archive of vintage fishing tackle catalogs and historical reference materials for collectors and researchers.

Historical Notes from the 1987 Lazy Ike Catalog
First note is that the cover is mainly re-used from 1984. I have yet to see a 1988 Lazy Ike catalog (if you know of one, please let me know). I believe this is the last Dura-Pak Lazy Ike catalog and the next one would be the first Great American Catalog, the 1989 Catalog. Originally I had thought that it was Great American that had come out with so many of the "Frankenstein lures" combining materials to make a new lure but it appears it was Dura-Pak on its last legs and Great American kept these going. These include the New Lazy Ike Spin Tail on page 2, Sputter Ike on page 7, and the Shimmy Ikes on page 8. Also be sure to check out the Color Chart on page 5. Some incredibly tough lure colors here.
Other lures of note: Lazy Ike French Spinners, Lazy Ike Spoons, Lazy Ike Natural Scents including some combo packs of them. Check out the Creek Chub color chart on page 14, some tougher colors here. All in all there are some very rare one off type Lazy Ike lures you might have never heard of in this catalog. Page 15 Magic Minnow and Magic Shad. This is a very tough catalog to find in the field and it's length gives you an idea how Dura-Pak was really pushing to stay in business. Sadly, they did not. On 02/10/1988 they forfeited their assets back to First National Bank of Sioux City ending their run of business and the Lazy Ike brand. Great American would take over that same day.
Below is the complete scanned 1987 Lazy Ike fishing lure catalog. Each page is shown in order so collectors and researchers can study the lure models, finishes, and tackle descriptions used by the Lazy Ike during this period.
