The 1963 Lazy Ike fishing lure catalog provides collectors with a detailed look at the lures and fishing tackle offered by the Lazy Ike Corporation.  This is the second catalog offered by the Lazy Ike Corporation after they bought the business from Kautzky Sporting Goods.  This is the first of a several year series where they switch to square 11" x 11" catalogs.  These look great to handle, not so great to ship and especially scan years later.  Packed full of the classics with some new additions.

Lures they made in 1963 are popular with fishermen and collectors yet today.  Vintage fishing lure catalogs like this are important reference materials for identifying lure models, studying finishes and packaging, and researching the history of classic fishing tackle.

This catalog is part of the My Bait Shop Master Catalog Archive Project (MCAP), a growing digital archive of vintage fishing tackle catalogs and historical reference materials for collectors and researchers.

Collector Tip

Have fun collecting!  If it gets too serious take a step back and change directions for a little while.  Sometimes I do this by focusing on a new collection of less expensive lures that are easier to find.

Historical Notes from the 1963 Lazy Ike Catalog

A few things of note on this catalog.  First is this is an 11"x11" format, the first in a run of these square catalogs.  Not my favorites.  They tend to be found kind of beat up and they are not easy to scan (so my apologies for that).  This is also the first of Lazy Ike numbering their catalogs.  This one is Catalog 863.  This helps us collectors later on but I think they started making mistakes by 869 before fixing it again later.

1963 also marks the first appearance of the Shark Ike and Bat Ike after the acquisition of the Demon Lure Company.  These are two pretty big additions to the Lazy Ike family.  Additionally the Rattle Ike is new this year.  The Lucky Ike Spoon was also a new addition.
