Heddon 1978 Catalog
1978 Heddon Fishing Lure Catalog
The 1978 Heddon fishing lure catalog provides collectors with a detailed look at the lures and fishing tackle offered by the James Heddon's Sons, a Division of Victor Comptometer Corp. out of Dowagiac, Michigan. Heddon was one of the most influential fishing lure manufacturers of the twentieth century. By 1978, Heddon had undergone ownership change but was still a giant in the fishing lure industry and continued to produce lures popular with anglers and collectors today. Vintage fishing lure catalogs like this are important reference materials for identifying lure models, studying finishes and packaging, and researching the history of classic fishing tackle.
This catalog is part of the My Bait Shop Master Catalog Archive Project (MCAP), a growing digital archive of vintage fishing tackle catalogs and historical reference materials for collectors and researchers.

Collector Tip
Don't write on vintage catalogs! This many seem like common sense now as catalogs are now very collectible in their own right but once upon a time they were just resources in the hobby. In fact, you will notice on the cover of this catalog the famous initials of a collecting giant who is no longer with us. Most of you will know who he is and we have an entire section of our website devoted to him.
Even though I have better copies of this catalog I have decided to use his personal catalog here as my way to pay tribute to the man and show pride for one of the small pieces of his former vast and spread out collection I am proud to own. Thanks for inspiring me and being a friend Clyde.

Historical Notes from the 1978 Heddon Catalog
This period was getting later in the Dowagiac stage of Heddon. Despite that there was a strong push on some amazing colors of baits being produced. River Runts, Tadpolly's and more were produced in some great colors. There were also some amazing special order colors that came out of this era.
