Heddon 1970 Catalog
1970 Heddon Fishing Lure Catalog
The 1970 Heddon fishing lure catalog provides collectors with a detailed look at the lures and fishing tackle offered by the James Heddon's Sons, a Division of Victor Comptometer Corp out of Dowagiac, Michigan. Heddon was one of the most influential fishing lure manufacturers of the twentieth century. By 1970, Heddon had undergone ownership change but was still a giant in the fishing lure industry and continued to produce lures popular with anglers and collectors today. Vintage fishing lure catalogs like this are important reference materials for identifying lure models, studying finishes and packaging, and researching the history of classic fishing tackle.
This catalog is part of the My Bait Shop Master Catalog Archive Project (MCAP), a growing digital archive of vintage fishing tackle catalogs and historical reference materials for collectors and researchers.

Historical Notes from the 1970 Heddon Catalog
Page 2 of this catalog talks about some of the highlights in the catalog. The first one is of interest to lure collectors. It is Heddon's exclusive Hi-Lite Finish on some of their more popular lures. Cass Hough, President of Heddon in 1970, mentions the big Spin Casting Reel No. 190, the Husky Model which provides a push-button option for larger baits and line.
The bottom of page 53 shows some great vintage Heddon packaging which will help collector's date their finds. Introduced in 1970 was the 9006 Magnum Tadpolly, 480F and 482F Toni Spinners, and the 800-Gang of Shiners.
Lastly I want to note that this catalog comes in at 64 pages and the 1971 catalog has 52 pages. With these catalogs it is really the end of the huge catalogs for Heddon. You start to see more scaled back catalogs from here. It is really amazing to see the sizes of these catalogs and the array of baits, rods and reels that were available.
Below is the complete scanned 1970 Heddon fishing lure catalog. Each page is shown in order so collectors and researchers can study the lure models, finishes, and tackle descriptions used by the Heddon company during this period.
