The 1986 Heddon fishing lure catalog provides collectors with a detailed look at the lures and fishing tackle offered by James Heddon's Sons, a Division of PRADCO (Plastic Research and Development Corporation) / EBSCO Industries out of Fort Smith, Arkansas.  Heddon was one of the most influential fishing lure manufacturers of the twentieth century. By 1984, Heddon had been bought out by PRADCO and moved to Fort Smith where it remains today.  This catalog is part of the early Heddon/PRADCO catalogs that really did a great job paying respect to the heritage of Heddon.  They put out some beautiful albeit short catalogs.  While these post Dowagiac lures were originally spurned by collectors, they are now collected almost as much as late Dowagiac baits.

This catalog is part of the My Bait Shop Master Catalog Archive Project (MCAP), a growing digital archive of vintage fishing tackle catalogs and historical reference materials for collectors and researchers.

Collector Tip

Don't be quick to write off PRADCO Heddon baits.  Lots of great baits have been put out since this acquisition (including the Japanese market).  Collect what you like and check prices.  Some of these PRADCO Heddon baits have become quite collectible.  Same goes with the catalogs.

Historical Notes from the 1986 Heddon Catalog

On the back cover is a photo of a 1907 Heddon catalog, a great throwback to the heritage of Heddon.  Original (wooden) Vamps were available in straight and jointed versions.  The "Color-C-Lector" was alive and well in the Heddon catalog.  For those of you that remember this, it was a system that told you what color bait to fish under what conditions.  See page 3 for more information.  These are tougher baits to find today and very collectible.

Below is the complete scanned 1986 Heddon fishing lure catalog. Each page is shown in order so collectors and researchers can study the lure models, finishes, and tackle descriptions used by the Heddon company during this period.
