First off, I apologize for being so scarce on this site. My computer had a worm during the winter and I had to get my computer repaired. I had lost all of my contacts and I forgot to put this site back on my favorites. I always checked in on what was going on, but when it wasn't right in front of my face, I had just over looked it. Thanks to Jerry mentioning it on the newsletter, I now have it back on my favorites.

I read Jerry's article on "old tackle Values" in the WATC newsletter and I agree, there is no value on anything that is set in gold. MY opinion is, the value is what the item is worth, to each individual. I have been in countless auctions, and the value of an item auctioned, is only the value to the winner of that auction. I have backed out almost every time when the "value" is higher than what the item is worth to me.
As far as book values, this again is only the "value" and opinion of the author. Meaning, the price in a book, is being presented as a guideline for giving us a ballpark clue of what the author thinks it should be worth. These books have countless hours of studies that the authors go through just to determine a value of an item for their book. They have to study the history, how rare the item is, the rareness of a certain color, the small changes in the piece from year to year, and so on. They also watch and talk to others to help determine what they think is a fair market value. Again, this is my opinion for what it is worth.

As far as what a "club" member thinks a value should be compared to a "non club" member, I think the value should be rounded out to an average of what several people think something is worth. For example, If a club member, in one of these clubs, thinks a certain lure is worth $100.00 and a non member thinks it should only be worth $50.00, then it stands to reason, that the lure is worth about 75 bucks or so. Again, the value is determined by what the individual thinks it is worth.
Now, I think there are two acceptions. One being, if you have a buddy, or relitive that gives you something, does that make it worth nothing? Of course not. And the other is, if you get caught up in an auction and paid $200.00 for a $50.00 lure, does that make the lure worth $200 bucks? Again, that wouldn't even count. It couldn't even be fair to count it in the averages.
Bottom line of "my opinion"........the definition of a value is, COMMON SENSE.

"Helping each other"........I am a true believer of helping each other. It is a wonderful feeling that someone goes out of their way to help me, as well as the rewarding feeling I get when I can help others. Good article Jerry!

Now as far as the WATC members. I have had great pleasure in going from a outsider to one of the guy's in the WATC. This is a great group of guys and I have enjoyed and established a great friendship with some of the members. I hope this friendship keeps growing with more and more members. If anyone reads this that isn't a member as of yet, I think you will enjoy getting on the wagon with this great bunch. The membership price is small and the friendship is big!

The purpose of the club is learning and having fun with the collections...........It's working!

Thank's Jerry Jolly for all that you do!!
