They say in sports that ties are like kissing your
sister. In the world of competitive fishing, a tie on
Friday meant kissing a nearly 78-year-old world-record
bass square on the lips.
The Florida-based International Game Fish Association
approved Manabu Kurita’s 22-pound, 4-ounce bass as a
world record that will tie the 22-pound, 4 -ounce
largemouth caught by George W. Perry at Georgia’s Lake
Montgomery in 1932. Kurita caught the bass July 2, but
the IGFA didn’t receive an application for a record
until Sept. 19. Kurita caught the fish in Lake Biwa, an
ancient reservoir northeast of Kyoto, Japan.
