In an effort to spend the most money possible on fishing equipment in order to catch a really big bluegill, I spent about $200 on a Abu Morrum 1600 reel a couple of years ago. I did this because I owned an Abu Morrum 3600 and I liked it. The 1600 is the smallest round baitcasting reel that Abu makes. I had a vision of using this small reel on a light baitcasting rod. I really gave this reel a good try but Abu Morrum 1600 translates from the Swedish as "giant knot." My most recent attempt with it was a complete failure, the knot was so large and deep that I was ready to take a scissors to it. However, I had a thirty year old Abu Black Max reel in my back back and put it on the rod. It worked perfectly for the rest of the day, no knots, not even a loop. When I bought this reel new it cost about $29.00. I will keep that Abu Morrum 1600 because it does look nice. What this means is good stuff does not always mean expensive stuff and new stuff is not always better then old stuff.
