I have had many conversations with Karl at the show here in Duncan (he comes for the two days every year) and he told me that when he wrote the books (the 3 book set)he projected what the value could be in 5 years from the time the books were written according to the trends he had seen. At the time they wre written they were most likely out of line but, as those of us who use his books have seen, they are coming into reality. I also have Dudley Murphy's books and the majority of his prices seem to be low according to what some baits are bringing now.

Another thing I would like to throw in is that I think the Lang's auctions have a lot to do with what people ask. There are many corporate and overseas bidders (through intermediaries) that bid at Lang's which I think drive their prices up. This is not on all items but on quite a few.

I'm like the rest of you, if someone wants it and wants to pay for it, go for it. The thing I really don't like is the person that will under evaluate a bait or baits just to get them cheap from someone so they can make a bigger profit.

Except for the Karl White paragraph, these are my opinions. No matter what, I will stick to my Pflueger metals and reels cuz that is what I love and if the one or two reels I really want come up I would probably pay an outrageous price if I can afford it.

The only thing I ask is let's do our best to try to keep this a hobby, recruit more people into it as a hobby and not a business, and leave others alone. What they do is their business whether we like it or not. As the old saying goes "Clean up your own back yard before you jump over the fence". I am not being accusatory to anyone just my opinion once again.l

Now that my wife is healthy and weather is getting warmer I will probably be bugging you guys more.
